Halesworth Airfield MusemOur 489th Bomb Group commemorative poppies are made from solid fully-machined highly-polished aluminium, and they measure approximately 62mm diameter, with a thickness of 14mm.

The price of each poppy is:

These items are exclusive to the Airfield Museum. The magnets are priced at £4 each, and the cloth patches at £6 each. We do not charge for postage but there is a minimum order of three items.

B17 "Flying Fortress" 612th Bomb Squadron, 401st Bomb Group, Deenethorpe, Northamptonshire.

Avro Lancaster BIII, MG–A, JB 652, 7 Squadron, Oakington, Cambs. Crashed at Wissett near Halesworth, Suffolk, 21st December 1943. The pilot, Flying Officer Donald Field DFC, bravely stayed with the aircraft and managed to steer it away from the town of Halesworth potentially sparing hundreds of lives. A memorial to F/O Field´s bravery is erected in the Halesworth town centre.

US 8th Army Airforce. This badge would have been made of cloth and positioned on the left shoulder of GI's uniform, belonging to the US 8th Airforce.

56th Fighter Group. "Cave Tonitrum", meaning "Beware the Thunderbolt". Later, post war, this badge was changed to "Ready and Waiting".

489th Bomb Group. The 489th equipped with B24 Liberator bombers were based at Halesworth from May 1944 to November 1944. The motto of the group at the bottom of the badge reads "ex tenebris lux veritatis", meaning "Light is Truth out of Darkness".

5th Emergency Rescue Squadron Badge Magnet. The 5th ERS arrived at Halesworth, 16th January 1945. They carried out daring rescue missions, mainly in the perilous North Sea, to rescue sailors and downed aircrew.

HMS Sparrowhawk. This Royal Naval Unit was based at Halesworth from 5th August 1945 until February 1946, making Halesworth a Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS).
